Kohaku Lame

Kohaku is the word for Amber (fossilized tree resin) with cultural references for beauty and transformation and protection. In fish like Koi it represents a red and white coloration. In medakas it is a amber and white pearlescent representation of the same Red and White patterning found on Koi. In Kohaku Lame it is a fish with amber and white in random application across the body (though amber mostly found on head) to emphasize the white reflective scale across the body. The Lame or (Glitter) is the patterning of alternating reflective scale, the objective being to have as much “glitter” as possible in alternating non lame/lame scale on body to give the glitter effect rather then solid sections of reflective scale.

Specimens with low lame numbers are set as lower quality and ranked as thus and specimens with under 20 lame scales in total, would be considered unfit to be labelled Kohaku Lame and would be simply considered as Kohaku or Red and white.

My goal in breeding and culls would be a bright amber head and a beautiful amber and white flank with as much lame as can be developed on the both flanks.

Below are 1cm-1.5 babies, with developing lame.
